Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
