Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, bringing strong winds hitting over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Impact

Residents reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities verified that multiple regions across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews deployed to handle the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, around 1,000 residents in the southern state also faced energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in 18 months.

Emergency response teams received over five hundred emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - various assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on Sunday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in Victoria were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were forecast to persist along significant areas of Queensland's east this coming days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.

The following day was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with continued storm activity anticipated across different parts of both areas.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
