Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
